What do you need backed up on a domain controller to recover Active Directory?
The System State needs to be backed up on a domain controller to recover the Active Directory database in the future. The System State includes system files but does not include the entire operating system. If a server fails, the operating system would have to be reinstalled, and then the System State would need to be restored.
